Get Ready! | Preparing for your lifestyle session

Helping you prepare

When you schedule your in-home photo session with me, I will send you an e-guide to help you prepare for your portraits. This hopefully makes it easier for you to get ready and helps you get the best possible photos. However, I thought it might be useful to do a series going into a bit more detail on a few points. First up, clothing.

Putting the focus on you

Ideally, your family’s outfits should complement each other, but definitely not match. Solids or small patterns in neutral colors photograph really well and create a timeless and classic theme. We want the focus to be on your faces and emotional connection, not your daughter’s sparkly, hot pink sweater. Also consider your homes colors; complement not match.

Everyone should be comfortable. Moms, this goes doubly for you. I have the hardest time finishing MY outfit. Make sure you’re comfortable and you feel good in your outfit. If you’re feeling self conscious, it’s going to be harder for you to relax and be with your family. I really love flowy, soft dresses. They’re super forgiving and feel like you’re wearing a bathrobe. Can’t go wrong there! For everyone else, cozy sweaters and jeans, easy dresses for the girls, soft, one pieces for baby, socks or bare feet. You’re really just going for the nicest version of your every day clothes.

There’s no need to raid Target for new outfits (unless you just want to!) Dress your family as you normally would. All it takes is a little extra thought to get everyone’s outfit on the same page.

All of this ideas also apply to location sessions as well as newborn. With location sessions, you don’t have to worry about clashing with your decor so you can be a bit more colorful if you like

Want to see more ideas? Check out my Pinterest page here. I have lots of outfit ideas to inspire you. I also have some boards for location session outfits as well.
